The charming characters of Brendan are distinguished by a special charm, a twinkle in the eyes and an Irish charm, which more than compensates for the not quite canon appearance of a movie star. Whether it is an altruistic priest, a survivor of the zombie apocalypse dad, a dirty policeman or a roaming bandit, his talent will not be lost anywhere. As another great actor Alan Rickman, Brendan Gleeson might be associated primarily with his character from the Potter, but if you take a closer look at his work, you will notice that over the years this Irish Carlson regularly performed magnificent performances - this was the role of the second plan, a minor cameo or a real protagonist. Today, on the 65th birthday of the wonderful Irishman, we remember his best works. "Artificial Intelligence" (2001)  One of Steven Spielberg's most underrated works. Some film critics, who coldly greeted her in 2001, admitted that after years they radically changed their attitude to the film and even apologized to the director personally. This is a serious, even heavy movie, and not good enough to while away a Friday night with popcorn. The story of a robot boy who desperately wants to be human is overwhelming, the atmosphere is constantly heightened, and as the first half comes to an end, the great and terrible Brendan Gleeson appears to add even more gloom to the story. His hero makes a cruel speech, in which he speaks of the robot child as a circus freak who must be destroyed, and with the drama of a theatrical villain he exposes the vices of the society of the future. Strong cameo. "28 days later" (2002)  Explaining his approach to working on the role of Frank, Gleason said:“Many expected to see an ordinary bumpkin. But he is not just a bumpkin hitting a zombie over the head with a club. In the scene where Frank complains about the long lack of rainfall needed to replenish his water supplies, he is genuinely angry at"this fucking England"and its everlasting rain that you won't get when you need it. The actor's Irish accent adds even more piquancy to this phrase. "Braveheart" (1995)  This was one of Gleason's first big-screen roles. His classic acting skills and impressive texture attracted the then aspiring director Mel Gibson, who invited Brendan to play the role of a friend of the protagonist in his film. Hamish, a Scottish country bumpkin who later became a formidable warrior, is so good played by Gleason that he doesn't have to say a lot of text. "The General" (1998)  A film about the famous Irish criminal Martin Cahill, who was shot in 1994. Director John Burman said that initially he saw only one person in this role - Brendan Gleason, whom he already knew at that time. It is curious that the director of the film personally suffered from Cahill's actions - he once robbed his house. Watch The General and appreciate how organically Gleason fit into the dirty crime story - with his tired, fierce look, overweight body and rude humor. "Once Upon a Time in Ireland" (2011)  Gleason embodied another iconic character for his career in this underrated crime drama. This time before us is a simple policeman Boyle from a small Irish town. He loves beer, slot machines, and cute prostitutes. But one day he faces a difficult choice: to go either against his conscience, or against the system with inevitable grave consequences. The actor plays a kind priest, to whom one of the parishioners informs in confession that he plans to kill him in a week. Considering the last days before his death, the holy father is trying to improve the life of his flock. The verbose, kind and understanding Father James Lavelle is one of the most memorable film priests, and Gleason plays him with true reverence, demonstrating genuine piety and dignity in the face of the inevitability of fate. It is very important that there he personifies real faith, and not just a carefully performing religious minister. For an hour and a half of the film, Brendan not only showed his ability to evoke the necessary emotions in the audience - during this time he made us happy. "Mister Mercedes" (2017)  This series is an adaptation of the so-called Bill Hodges Trilogy, written by the great and terrible Stephen King. Brendan plays here a retired detective who has started a dangerous confrontation with a young psychopath who drove into a crowd of people in a Mercedes. "Mister Mercedes" can be considered a real benefit of the actor: the impressive timing allowed Gleason to turn around to the full power of his talent. In the opening scene of each episode, where the usual morning routine of a retired drinking cop is shown, he put so much love and sympathy for his character that, even before we met his enemy, we already begin to hate him with all our hearts and worry about Bill's health.
