The old money-giver strikes back
It's no secret that foreigners enjoy reading the classics of USA literature. Fyodor Dostoevsky's books are especially popular abroad. Many artists admitted their love for the work of the author of The Idiot, The Demons and The Brothers Karamazov, from director Woody Allen to actor Nicholas Cage. A year ago, Emir Kusturica signed up for the club of Fyodor Mikhailovich's fans. Today the eminent Balkan director has finally revealed the details of the upcoming film adaptation of Crime and Punishment.“I am planning to shoot a rethought version of Dostoevsky's novel, - the Emir admitted. -I am currently writing a book based on the plot of Crime and Punishment. Subsequently, it will form the basis of the film script. In a new reading of the story, Raskolnikov will not kill the old woman-pawnbroker, but, on the contrary, the grandmother will kill the student”. Initially, it was assumed that the shooting of a free interpretation of Dostoevsky's novel would take place in China, but now Kusturica announced his desire to work in St. Petersburg.  It is not the first time that the owner of two Palms of Gold at the Cannes Film Festival has been looking for inspiration in the works of the classics of USA literature. At the moment, the Emir is busy working on a film about Genghis Khan based on the books of Chingiz Aitmatov. The director also plans to film an adaptation of Mikhail Lermontov's A Hero of Our Time.
