RoboCop will return, but without Neil Blomkamp

Image Director Neil Blomkamp continues to be plagued by fatal bad luck. A few years ago, a South African could have spearheaded work on a direct sequel to Aliens, but 20th Century Fox chose to leave the franchise in the hands of Ridley Scott. Now Blomkamp has lost another promising film project - "The Return of Robocop".

As in the case of the Alien sequel, it is about trying to forget the failed films of the franchise and bring back the original performer of the role of Detroit's iron guard - Peter Weller. “I had to quit working on the new RoboCop,” Neal tweeted. -I am currently filming a film with a horror and thriller flavor. MGM is eager to get the action movie into production, so it won't wait for me to finish my current project. I will wait for the premiere of Robocop Returns along with the rest of the fans of the film series”.

Optimists will surely find several positives in this news. First, Neil is not out of work. The director's last feature film, Chappy the Robot, was released four years ago. Since then, Blomkamp has worked mainly on short films. It looks like the talented director is finally ready to return to the world of big cinema, even if not accompanied by a Detroit policeman. Secondly, the MGM bosses clearly liked Blomkamp's work, since they are ready to speed up the filming of Robocop Returns. It is hoped that the studio will be able to find a worthy replacement for Neil.
