Robocop will be back

Image Neil Blomkamp (District 9) was unable to realize his ideas in the world of Alien, but perhaps the filmmaker will leave a mark on the history of another cult franchise. According to Deadline, MGM has invited Blomkamp to lead the filming of RoboCop Returns.

The picture, like the new "Halloween", is both a sequel to "Robocop" by Paul Verhoeven, and a reboot of the film series. The original script from 1987 was originally written by Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner, but Justin B. Rhodes has yet to tweak it. Rhodes, by the way, had managed to work on the text of the sixth "Terminator" before.

The fact that MGM is ready to return Robocop to the screens, Neumeier said back in January of this year, but then the details of the project were kept secret. However, even now the studio is in no hurry to reveal the details of the plot. It is only known that the fate of Detroit, where chaos reigned, will be in jeopardy, and Robocop will return triumphantly to fight crime and corruption.

“As a child, the original made an indelible impression on me,- Blomkamp admitted. -I liked the film both then and now. It remains a classic of science fiction with a special meaning. Hopefully we can do the same for the sequel. This is my goal ... Over time, I began to perceive Robocop differently. At first, my attention was attracted by the questions of the ideology of the consumer society, materialism and Reaganomics, America of the 80s, which was on steroids, which were raised in it. But with age, I began to understand that the main thing is the topic of personality and the search for oneself ”.

The action movie by Paul Verhoeven is not for nothing considered a classic of science fiction. It was admired by critics and audiences alike, but the sequel and triquel that followed RoboCop fell short of the original, as did the 2014 remake, starring Yuel Kinnaman.
