BAFTA Honors Casting Experts
While American film academics confuse envelopes with the names of the winners in the Best Film of the Year category, try to present off-screen awards, introduce a strange nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Cinema, and fire the Oscar host 48 hours after his appointment, their overseas colleagues make much more balanced and correct decisions. Today it became known that the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) will begin to celebrate the outstanding achievements of casting professionals.For years, viewers have asked the directors of the American Academy and other influential film organizations to consider the fate of the casting directors. Experts in the field put together brilliant acting teams and open up new names to the world, but receive mostly awards from their own unions. The situation looks even stranger considering that there are two awards for sound at the Oscars. At the same time, the average film academician is unlikely to be able to clearly explain the difference between editing and mixing. The British Academy went ahead of the rest of the world and expanded the circle of experts who can qualify for its award. Beginning next year, talented film and TV cast recruiting professionals will finally join the BAFTA competition. Movie fans can only hope that the Americans will follow the example of the British, and they, in turn, will not stop there and begin to introduce categories for stuntmen, stunt directors and other unsung heroes of the industry.  The names of the contenders for the BAFTA-2020 film awards will be announced on January 7. The awards will be presented at London's Albert Hall on February 2.
