Ferrari does not give up

Image Michael Mann ("Skirmish") makes another attempt to start the engine of the biographical drama "Ferrari". The director has enlisted the support of STX studio and is preparing a presentation of the film for the virtual Cannes Film Market.

Talk about creating a biopic Enzo Ferrari has been going on since the early 2000s. Mann wrote the script for the film in collaboration with Sidney Pollack. The latter was supposed to head the shooting, but got cancer. Five years ago, Michael decided to honor his friend's legacy and bring the project to fruition. The role of Ferrari went to Christian Bale, who went too far with weight gain and ended up in a hospital bed. As a result, Mann had to first postpone and then cancel the shooting.

We last wrote about the project in March 2017, when Mann offered the title role to Hugh Jackman. It seems that the Australian was not embarrassed by the three-year pause: he still wants to lead the Ferrari concern. Insiders report that Jackman will sign a contract if the picture is supported in Cannes.

The main events of the film will take place in 1957 during one of the most dangerous races in the world - "A Thousand Miles". The competition of that year ended in tragedy that led to the final closure of the rally. For thirty years of its existence, "Thousand Miles" claimed the lives of 56 people. The tragedy on the track was a continuation of Ferrari's black stripe. The filmmakers will tell how Enzo lost his eldest son, faced problems in marriage and relationships with an illegitimate son, and his company almost went bankrupt.

STX will only distribute Ferrari in the UK and Ireland, so Mann needs international investors and distributors. The search for them will begin in the coming days.
