American directors chose the best

Image The Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Los Angeles hosted the 72nd Directors Guild of America Awards, which are awarded annually to directors for excellence in film and television. The event was hosted by director Judd Apatow for the second year in a row.

The Guild includes about 17.5 thousand people, and many of them are in addition members of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Therefore, analysts often rely on the opinion of the Directors Guild in predicting Oscar winners. Still, over the past two decades, the union has only a few times failed to guess the future winner of the Oscar.

Sam Mendes, who was named the best director of a feature film by his colleagues, significantly increased his chances of winning the upcoming Academy Awards ceremony. Mendes' victory seems more likely if we remember that thanks to the drama 1917, the director added a Golden Globe to his collection at the beginning of the year.
