Sam Mendes' war drama "1917" continues to collect prestigious professional awards of the highest dignity. To the already existing regalia was added one more - the award of the American Directors Guild. Mendes' rivals were Martin Scorsese ("The Irishman"), Quentin Tarantino ("Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood"), Bong Joon-ho ("Parasites") and Taika Waititi ("Jojo Rabbit").

A Guild Award for Best Television Comedy went to the creators of Barry. Among the dramatic projects, the team of directors of the movie adaptation of the "Guardians" comics was named the best. Johan Renck received an award for the creation of the mini-series "Chernobyl".

Previously, the movie "1917" received the main prize of another influential American trade union - the Producers Guild. In the overwhelming majority of cases, the laureates of this award subsequently won the Oscar. Also, Mendes' drama was recognized as the best in 2019 by the Hollywood Film Critics Association and was awarded the Golden Globe 2019 by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
