Marvel won't let go of Spider-Man without a fight

Image Last month, it was revealed that Marvel and Sony had canceled a joint custody deal for Spider-Man. It looks like Kevin Feige's studio wants to undo the click that took Peter Parker out of the MCU. There are rumors in Hollywood that in a few days the companies will return to the negotiating table.

At one time, Marvel sold the rights to their characters to avoid bankruptcy. After a few years, the company's business went uphill, and she began to return superheroes home. In early 2015, Marvel rented Spider-Man. Unfortunately, the details of that deal are still kept secret. Rumor has it that Peter Parker went to Feige's company for free. The cost of creating the solo albums was covered by Sony, and Marvel received 5% of the box office. Moreover, some sources claim that the Marvelites also made money by selling merchandise with the image of Spiderman.

The terms of the deal were quite acceptable, but the Disney Corporation stepped in to grab a new piece of the financial pie. The Disneyists suggested that the costs of creating solo albums be divided in half. In response, they demanded from Sony either 25 or 50 percent of the box office. Marvel partners considered the new contract a rip-off and decided to independently manage the franchise. Disney is ready to let go of the superhero, but Feige does not want to deprive viewers of the opportunity to see Parker in the Avengers. According to rumors, the head of Marvel convinced Sony's management to return to discussing the deal.

All of the above suggests that Sony will launch a new round of negotiations from a position of strength. The bosses of the film company, of course, understand that the exit of Spider-Man from the Marvel universe promises a lot of trouble for both sides of the negotiations. They will have to explain where yesterday's friends and comrades of the superhero have gone, and the Marvelists will begin to frantically fold storylines with Spidey's participation. In this regard, insiders assume that Sony is ready to go for a new deal, but on favorable terms for itself.

Sony bosses have never hidden that they would like to see Spiderman in the Venom movies. A few days ago there was a rumor that Tom Holland was supposed to appear in the first film about the adventures of Eddie Brock, but Marvel insisted that the scene with his participation be cut out. Now that the initiative in the negotiations is wholly owned by Sony, its leadership may well demand a crossover of the two MCUs. It is possible that the studios will exchange rights for several more characters. So, Sony allegedly wants to use Sam Wilson and Nick Fury in its own films.

Studio officials refrain from commenting. Fans of the Marvel Universe can only hope that Spider-Man does have a chance to return to the Avengers.
