Spider-Man leaves the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Image Sad news came from Hollywood. What the multimillion-dollar army of Spider-Man fans feared has come true: Marvel and Sony studios broke the deal to joint custody of Peter Parker. There is a high probability that the young superhero will no longer meet with the Avengers and other inhabitants of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Our regular readers will, of course, remember that in recent years we have often published news of the difficult relationship of Parker's guardians. Recently, a disturbing rumor appeared on the Web that Sony could return the rights to the superhero if Spider-Man: Far From Home had earned less than $ 1 billion. When the film successfully reached the required amount, it began to seem that both studios were happy the current state of affairs, but at that moment the news of the termination of the contract broke out. Everything goes to the fact that Marvel will not only stop participating in the filming of Spider-Man solo films, but also lose the right to use the superhero in its MCU.

There are two versions as to what led to the rift in the studio relationship. According to one, Sony always wanted to use the deal to promote the brand with Marvel and take Parker into its own superhero universe. The cunning plan was definitely a success. Spider-Man is at the peak of popularity, which is eloquently evidenced by the fact that the film "Far From Home" bypassed in the sum of receipts as the films of the trilogy of Sam Raimi, and both parts of "The Amazing Spider-Man". In light of today's events, it seems like Sony was deliberately playing on Kevin Feige's nerves by starting talk of a Spiderman / Venom teaming up, rather than giving the Marvel CEO the characters he really needed.

Comic book fans have already criticized Sony's management. Some of them even call for a boycott of the studio's new films. The company had no choice but to issue an official statement, which contains a curious phrase: "We are disappointed with the current situation, but we respect the decision of the management of the Disney studio, which removed Kevin Feige from the post of producer of the Spider-Man films." These words lead us to the second theory about the reasons for the termination of the contract. It is possible that the main culprit in the scandal is the Walt Disney empire.

Spider-Man's custody deal was struck in early 2015, but the details have never been released to the public. Now rumors have finally surfaced on the web about exactly how Marvel and Sony came to an agreement. Rumor has it that Feige's studio did not pay a cent for Peter Parker. Funding for the solo albums was handled exclusively by Sony, which agreed to pay the partner 5% of the box office for each film. If we talk about the films of the MCU, then all the income from blockbusters with Spidey's participation, apparently, went to the piggy bank of Feige's company. We can say that four years ago the Marvel team knocked out a good deal.

As you know, Marvel studio belongs to Disney Corporation. For some reason, House of Mouse intervened in the affairs of the subsidiary and tried to improve the contract with Sony. The Disney artists devised a 50/50 deal, proposing to split all expenses and income from solo albums in half. Apparently, the head of Sony, Tom Rothman, was not ready for the fact that he would have to increase partner payments tenfold. At the same time, Disney wanted to leave the new films about Parker without the support of Kevin Feige, who has enough worries within his own superhero universe. Unsurprisingly, Sony found the renewed contract unattractive. Not only would the studio start giving away half of the box office, but it would also not be able to resort to the help of the creator of the most successful film franchise of our time.

Insiders believe that the studios still have a small chance of a truce. Viewers can only hope that their representatives will return to the negotiating table and come to a compromise to keep Peter Parker as part of the Marvel Universe. Otherwise, Tom Holland's hero will have to start a new life in another superhero film series.
