The Lord of the Rings screenwriter tells the story of young Merlin
The film adaptation of the saga about the youth of the famous wizard Merlin by Thomas Archibald Barron, which has long been of interest to Hollywood tycoons, has found a screenwriter in the person of Oscar-winning Philip Boyens . The Deadline portal shares the news with the movie world.The first book in the series, The Lost Years of Merlin , released in 1996, begins in ancient Wales, where a young wizard named Emrys discovers that he possesses extraordinary powers ... Having lost his sight, a teenager realizes that he can see the world not with his eyes, but with his heart. The future great wizard and the right hand of King Arthur embarks on a journey to discover his gift, meeting loyal friends and making dangerous enemies... The film rights of the first of the eleven novels were held at various times by Miramax , Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros . From the last studio on this list to focus on Knights of the Round Table: King Arthur, the project moved to Disney early last year. The bosses of this company assigned the production functions to Jil Netter. Writing the script was entrusted to Patrick Masset and John Zinman, who, however, soon left the production.  Boyens , who is going to be an independent screenwriter for the first time, is no stranger to the fantasy genre. She helped Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh write the scripts for two trilogies, Middle-earth , as well as King Kong and The Lovely Bones. In 2004, the members of the creative trio won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.  In connection with the conversation about the wizard Merlin , we must not forget the plans revealed this summer by Disney for another film dedicated to this character. A full-length feature film based on the animated Sword in the Stone, written by Brian Cogman, is being prepared for production.
