Walt Disney Studios invited Ridley Scott to take on the creation of a saga dedicated to the legendary wizard Merlin. This is reported by Variety with reference to its sources. The project will be based on a series of books by T.A. Barron and will follow the story of Marilyn from the wizard's youth to the moment he became the mentor of King Arthur.

The script will be Philip Boyens, who participated in the creation of the trilogies "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit". The timing of work on the first movie has not yet been specified. Note that for the first time, Walt Disney's desire to movie the works of Thomas Archibald Barron was announced back in 2015.

A book entitled "The Lost Years of Merlin", published in 1996, begins the series "Merlin's Saga" and talks about the youth of the famous wizard, about how he realizes his destiny and learns to manage the abilities given to him.

It is noteworthy that initially the Warner Bros studio intended to shoot a movie based on this work with an eye to the cinematic universe, with which Philip Boyens previously collaborated, but then all the movie rights were bought by Walt Disney. Potential performers of key roles in the movie have not been named at the time of this writing.
