Linklater will tell the story of Bill Hicks' life

Image American independent filmmaker and three-time Oscar nominee Richard Linklater is preparing to produce a new film. According to Collider, this time he will work on a biopic about controversial stand-up comedian Bill Hicks, for which he will also write a script.

The director has always been a big Hicks fan and was especially worried when the comedian died of cancer at the age of 33, and they were unable to work together. After the documentary The American: The Bill Hicks Story, Richard felt a real resonance with his story as they both grew up in Houston. The director's older brother even went to the same school as the comedian, and Hicks himself apparently loved Linklater's film High and Confused, which came out five months before his death. Bill was ranked 13th on Rolling Stone magazine's 50 Best Comedians of All Time.

Linklater is best known for the drama Adolescence, and he rose to fame after the critically acclaimed independent film Loafer and the subsequent cult comedy High and Confused. Ten years later, Richard hit the box office with his hit School of Rock, but his latest films, To Each His Own and Last Wave of the Flag, were ignored by major festivals.
