Golden Bear spoke French
The 69th Berlin International Film Festival has finished in the German capital. The film festival kicked off on 7 February with the screening of Lone Scherfig's The Kindness of Strangers. Over the next days, visitors to one of the leading European film screenings have evaluated another four hundred films. Sixteen of them participated in the main competition program.The main award of the Berlinale went to the drama "Synonyms" co-produced by Germany, France and Israel. Nadav Lapid's tape follows a young Israeli Yoave trying to adapt to life in Paris. The situation is complicated by the fact that his only assistant in this difficult task is a battered French-Hebrew dictionary. Foreign film critics have already compared the performer of the role of Yoav, the debutant actor Tom Mercier, with the young Tom Hardy. As for the film itself, first it won the prestigious prize of the International Film Press Federation, and then prevailed in the fight for the Golden Bear. USA was represented at the festival by the drama "Acid". To the disappointment of fans of USA cinema, the jury of the Panorama program left Alexander Gorchilin's film without awards.
