Hockey player, millionaire, playboy

Image Film company Fort Point Media is preparing a surprise for fans of ice hockey and stories in the spirit of "The Wolf of Wall Street". Boston studio announced the start of work on the film about the life of the winner of two Stanley Cups Derek Sanderson.

The protagonist of the future film was born in the town of Niagara Falls and, like many Canadian boys, skated from a young age. Derek began playing hockey as a center forward and quickly made his way to the top of the Canadian junior leagues in terms of points. In 1965, he signed his first professional contract with the NHL Boston Bruins.

In the major North American hockey league, he had to give up his reputation as a scorer and become an expert on defense. With Sanderson doing an enormous amount of rough work, his teammates in the attacking trio were given considerable play freedom. The Boston Bruins soon developed into one of the most formidable forces in the league. In the 1969-1970 season, Derek's scoring pass helped the Bostonians win the decisive playoff game and win their first Stanley Cup since 1941. Two seasons later, the Bruins and Sanderson repeated their success.

In the summer of 1972, Derek signed the largest sports contract in the history of the United States and Canada, a $ 2.6 million deal with the Philadelphia Blazers. As is often the case, a lot of money ruined the hockey player. He began showing off on the covers of magazines, attending various talk shows, buying expensive cars and hanging out in nightclubs with Playboy models. Alcohol addiction and a series of injuries led to the fact that Sanderson spent only 8 games with his new team. Derek's playing career lasted for several more years, but he never managed to quit bad habits and return to his previous level.

In 1978, Sanderson hung his skates on a nail and found that he had managed to squander all of his savings. Luckily for Derek, legendary Boston Bruins guard Bobby Orr came to his rescue. The former teammate paid for Sanderson's treatment at the anti-alcoholism center and helped him get back on his feet. As a result, Derek first became a sports expert on TV, and then created an accounting company to help young athletes avoid mistakes in financial management.

The script for the film about the life of Derek Sanderson will be written by Boston journalist and writer Casey Sherman, whose books formed the basis for the plots of the drama "Patriot Day" and the disaster film "And The Storm Came."
