USAn Box Office: Robots Against Rabbits
If last weekend in financial terms was one of the weakest this year, the proceeds of cinemas last weekend grew by 42% and amounted to about 921 million rubles. The new leader of the box office is the Hollywood blockbuster Pacific Rim 2 directed by Steven S. DeKnight. The sequel to the 2013 film of the same name continues to tell the story of manned robots, which once again have to protect humanity from a deadly threat.At the start, the fantastic action movie received 389 million rubles from the audience, thereby improving the results of the original film. The first "Pacific Frontier", directed by Guillermo del Toro, five years ago was able to earn 292 million rubles for the debut weekend, and in total he managed to master about 680 million rubles. Among the releases of this year, in relation to the box office collected during the premiere four days, "Rubezh" is on the third line. Only the romantic sports melodrama "Ice" (470 million rubles) and the erotic thriller "Fifty Shades of Freedom" (409 million rubles) have managed to collect the largest amount for the first weekend at the box office. As for the audience, they accepted the novelty quite calmly, and some were even disappointed with the film. Despite the excellent action and well-filmed battle scenes, reviewers complain about the predictable plot and poor acting. But, perhaps, the main complaint of the fans of the first film is that the sequel has lost the atmosphere, originality and special style of del Toro and turned into a typical blockbuster, and even similar to the next part of "Transformers".  The children's film "Peter Rabbit", the film adaptation of the book by the famous British writer Beatrice Potter, jumped to the second line of the box office. In the center of the plot is a small and restless rabbit who is trying to get into the garden to the formidable farmer and enjoy his harvest. The film stars Donal Gleeson and Rose Byrne, accompanied by a motley crew of adorable painted animals. Although almost nothing remained of the original source, and fans of Potter's creativity expressed a storm of discontent about the tape, the USA audience liked it. The director Will Gluck has made a bright, dynamic and funny film, where the adventures of mischievous heroes are interesting to watch not only for children, but also for their parents. In addition, reviewers note the excellent computer graphics, thanks to which the animals look very realistic. As a result, for the premiere weekend, Peter Rabbit and his friends managed to get 242 million rubles in their piggy bank, far exceeding the expectations of film analysts, who predicted the tape fees in the region of 140 million rubles. Among the films, where along with people are also involved and animated characters, "Peter Rabbit" is currently the best result. He managed to bypass the collection of such films as "The Adventures of Paddington" (167 million rubles), "The Smurfs 2" (166 million rubles) and the fourth part of the franchise "Alvin and the Chipmunks" (137 million rubles).  Fearless adventure lover Lara Croft was unable to maintain a leadership position and immediately dropped to third place in the financial rankings, losing 65% of her debut box office. During the second week of distribution, the action-adventure film "Tomb Raider: Lara Croft" was able to earn 83 million rubles, and the total revenue of the tape with Alicia Vikander reached 375 million rubles.  Having shown the smallest drop in fees among all the participants in the current box office, about 46%, the USA romantic comedy "I'm losing weight" is on the fourth line. The tape with Alexandra Bortich in the title role received an additional 63 million rubles in the third week of rental. In total, the asset of the picture is 611 million rubles. Among all the films that managed to be released this year, "I'm losing weight" takes the fourth line. So far, only Fifty Shades of Freedom (767 million rubles), Black Panther (1.08 billion rubles) and Ice (1.49 billion rubles) can boast of the best results.  The animated comedy "Sherlock Gnomes" closes the five leaders of the past week. The cartoon's box office for the second weekend sank by 68% and amounted to 26 million rubles. In total, at the moment, about 115 million rubles are listed in the picture's piggy bank. The sequel shows itself at the box office noticeably weaker than the original. In 2011, the cartoon "Gnomeo and Juliet" for the same period of time has already earned 146 million rubles, and in total was able to master then about 184 million rubles.
