USAn Box Office: Monsters and Silence

Image The past week, alas, again failed to please film distributors with its financial results. Overall box office receipts were up, of course, but by only 0.5% compared to last weekend, the weakest in monetary terms, this year's weekend. If Easter weekend brought a total of about 552 million rubles, now the audience left about 555 million rubles in cinemas.

The new leader of the box office was the blockbuster "Rampage" with Dwayne Johnson as a brave primatologist who is trying to prevent a global catastrophe and stop the monsters, giant gorillas, wolves and crocodiles, which appeared as a result of a genetic experiment out of control. The tape was launched significantly weaker than analysts' expectations, who predicted its fees in the region of 250 million rubles. For the debut weekend, the film directed by Brad Peyton managed to master only 182 million rubles. This is not the first joint project of Peyton and Johnson, and so far the new product is noticeably inferior to its predecessors in terms of fees. So, "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" in 2012 received 207 million rubles at the start, and the San Andreas Rift three years later began its march through cinemas from the mark of 263 million rubles. Loses a lot to Rampage and last year's Skull Island in the asset which after the premiere four days was 279 million rubles. The film, based on the eponymous 80s game series, received a mixed reaction from the public. Some viewers call it an excellent attraction with all the attributes inherent in the genre like spectacular action, a lot of destruction, chases and shootings. Others refer to "Rampage" as "another film with Dwayne Johnson," predictable and completely devoid of meaning and logic.

The second line was the start of the American horror film A Quiet Place, directed by actor John Krasinski. The tape tells the story of a family with two children who are trying to survive in a world inhabited by terrible monsters that react to any loud sound. The main roles in the film were played by Krasinski himself and his wife Emily Blunt. For the premiere weekend, "Quiet Place" received 123 million rubles from viewers. The tape was launched a week ago as part of preview shows, and in total there are 128 million rubles in its piggy bank. Critics and viewers do not stop praising the film, calling it one of the best horror films of the past few years. Calm down to the smallest detail, Quiet Place boasts excellent acting and an original idea that combines a horror film with a drama about family and parenting. The incarnation also did not disappoint, starting with camera work and ending with the exact combination of music, sounds and that very silence, which masterfully works on the plot, they help to escalate the situation and keep the audience's attention throughout the entire hour and a half.

Last week's leader, mystical detective “Gogol. Viy ”, lost 55% of the premiere box office in the second week of distribution and dropped to the third line of the box office. The past weekend brought the film 100 million rubles, and in total, the sequel about the adventures of the young Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol has 379 million rubles. At the box office, the novelty shows itself much better than the original picture, which was released last fall. Over the same period of time, the first part of the franchise with Alexander Petrov in the title role earned 358 million rubles.

From second to fourth place fell the fantastic film "Ready Player One". The third weekend brought 58 million rubles to the collection of Steven Spielberg's paintings. In total, the account of the "Gambler" is currently 665 million rubles. Among all releases this year, in terms of gross receipts, the film ranks fifth after the films "Ice" (1.5 billion rubles), "Black Panther" (1.09 billion rubles), "Fifty Shades of Freedom" (767 million rubles) and "I'm losing weight" (668 million rubles).

The family tape "Peter Rabbit" closes the five leaders of the financial rating. For the fourth week at the box office, the box office of the animated-game comedy sank by 44% and amounted to 24 million rubles. As for the general fees, for all the time the film with Donal Gleason in the title role managed to earn 534 million rubles.
