The Lords of the Universe Don't Give Up

Image It seems like an eternity has passed since Hollywood producers set out to reboot the Lords of the Universe franchise. The project has changed from a dozen directors and even more screenwriters, and the last one who was going to bring Hee-Man to the big screens was David S. Goyer. In February, the filmmaker decided to step down as director of the reboot, but he did not remain vacant for long.

As Variety found out, Sony invited Aaron and Adam Nee to lead the filming of Mattel's popular toys. At the same time, Goyer is still listed as the scriptwriter and executive producer of the project, which he had to abandon due to obligations undertaken earlier. The release of the reboot is still scheduled for December 18 next year, and if Sony's bosses want to be on time by the agreed date, they will start assembling the cast in the near future.

For most moviegoers, the brothers' names say nothing. In 2006, they released the drama The Last Romantic, and in 2015, their eccentric crime comedy Gang of Robbers was released, retelling the story of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn in a new way. Apparently, this film, which toured a number of film festivals, but never made it to the general distribution, and attracted the attention of Sony.

In recent years, Hollywood studios have increasingly given large-scale projects to independent directors: Gareth Edwards got Godzilla, Colin Trevorrow got into Jurassic World, and Jordan Vot-Roberts went to Skull Island. Last year turned out to be very successful for Sony, and the major certainly wants to continue this trend, which means that he sees considerable potential in the Ni brothers.
