Hee-Man's universe was left without a master

Image Once again, the reboot of the Lords of the Universe franchise ran into serious problems. Just a couple of weeks ago, David S. Goyer willingly shared concept art of the film with his Instagram subscribers, and today he unexpectedly decided to step down as director of a fantasy blockbuster.

As it became known to Variety, Goyer will retain the positions of executive producer and screenwriter of the film. Rumor has it that David had to leave the director's chair of "Masters of the Universe", because in the near future he will be busy working on a mini-series based on Isaac Asimov's famous science fiction book cycle "Foundation".

The world premiere of the film "Masters of the Universe" is scheduled for December 18, 2019. If Sony intends to keep this date on its release schedule, the name of Goyer's replacement could be announced to the public as soon as possible.

Hee-Man, Skeletor and other characters from the popular Mattel series of toys were already on the big screen in 1987. Gary Goddard's tape with Dolph Lundgren, Frank Langella and Courteney Cox in the lead roles failed to recoup its budget, but over the years it has acquired a truly cult status among fans of action and fantasy.

The first attempt to reboot the franchise came in 2007, when Warner Bros. owned the He-Man universe. Two years later, the project came under the wing of Sony. Over the past years, the Japanese corporation has managed to rework the plot of the film several times and consider candidates for a dozen directors.

Although the director's chair for Masters of the Universe is once again vacant, fans of the franchise still have reason to be happy. Hollywood insiders report that the studio bosses are finally completely satisfied with the current version of the film script.
