Schindler's List Screenwriter Shows Mr. Ripley's Evolution

Image It's amazing that today, in the era of antiheroes on TV, we still haven't seen a single series about sociopath and serial killer Tom Ripley. Oscar-winning screenwriter Stephen Zellian, known for such films as Schindler's List, Hannibal, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Man Who Changed Everything, decided to correct this oversight.

Zellian intends to base the plot on all five of Patricia Highsmith's Tom Ripley novels - The Talented Mr. Ripley, Mr. Ripley Underground, Mr. Ripley's Game, The One Who Followed Mr. Ripley and Mr. Ripley Underwater to create a kind of map, which can be used to track the evolution of the hero from a swindler to a serial killer. Who will buy the rights to broadcast the series is still unknown, but it is reported that Zellian may act as both the author and director of most of the first season.

I wonder if the talented Mr. Ripley will be able to interest the modern viewer. Yes, this character has remained relevant for over fifty years, but there are so many antiheroes on TV today that Zellian will have to work hard to make Ripley unique and not at all like his competitors.

The first film adaptation of Tom Ripley's adventures took place in 1960. The picture came out under the title "In the bright sun", the main role in which went to Alain Delon. Later, the image of Tom Ripley was embodied on the screen by other famous actors: Dennis Hopper, Matt Damon, John Malkovich and Barry Pepper. It should be noted that only 1999's "The Talented Mr. Ripley" could become a hit. The film won five Oscar nominations and grossed $ 128.8 million from a budget of $ 40 million.
