USAn Box Office Celebrates Avengers Record
If the weekend on the eve of the May holidays and with a working Saturday became the worst financially this year, then last weekend brought several reasons for joy to distributors and cinemas. Total box office receipts not only grew by 220% compared to the disappointing results of a week ago and amounted to about 1.44 billion rubles, but also became the second highest this year. More revenue from cinemas was only for the Christmas weekend (January 4 - January 07), while viewers spent about RUB 1.89 billion on cinema.The savior and leader of the box office, as expected, was the blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War. The third Avengers film and the 19th film of the MCU has prepared a new, far more dangerous threat for superheroes than those they had to face before. Now they have to fight the intergalactic tyrant Thanos, who is obsessed with the idea of collecting the Infinity Stones and changing reality in order to save the Universe from overpopulation. Perhaps the most anticipated film of this year, which brought together under one roof the vast majority of the heroes that viewers had a chance to meet over the ten years of the franchise's existence, during the first four days at the box office, it was able to set several records at once. "War of Infinity" by brothers Anthony and Joe Russo showed not only the best result of the premiere day (276 million rubles) and the weekend as a whole, but also became the first film in the history of our film distribution, which managed to get a billion rubles for its debut weekend.  For the first four days, "War of Infinity" was watched by a record number of viewers, 4 million, including the CIS countries, and the total fees amounted to 1.16 billion rubles. Prior to that, the record belonged to the film "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales"; on the premiere weekend, she was able to attract about 3.7 million people. USA viewers then replenished the film's piggy bank by 968 million rubles, and taking into account the fees in the CIS countries, the tape had about 1.05 billion rubles. The new part of the franchise was able to bypass its predecessors. Six years ago, the first "Avengers" earned 441 million rubles at the start, having received 1.28 billion rubles all the time. "Era of Ultron" in 2016 started rolling at 818 million rubles, having collected as a result 1.72 billion rubles. In addition, the loud start of Infinity War forced the recent Black Panther to move. With a result of 1.09 billion rubles. the tape held the second place in the list of the highest grossing releases of this year, passing ahead only "Ice" with its 1.5 billion rubles. But, apparently, the romantic story about skaters does not have to rest on its laurels for long: The Avengers are on the warpath ...  Critics and viewers who have watched Infinity War generally speak positively about the film, some even enthusiastically. Marvel has once again managed to keep the bar and delight fans with a large-scale, dynamic and incredibly spectacular action. There is a whole scattering of favorite heroes, even if some of them appear for a very short time, and a charismatic villain with convincing motivation, and an epic confrontation stuffed with action, special effects and well-staged fights. Of course, there were those who did not like the new creation of the Marvel studio and raised a lot of questions, starting with humor and ending with the banal lack of screen time for each of the many characters. Still, the loyal fans of the franchise, who have followed it tirelessly for the past ten years, have appreciated the "War".  Danila Kozlovsky's directorial debut was replaced by the first full-length film by another popular actor in our country - Konstantin Khabensky. The military drama "Sobibor" he filmed tells about the eponymous Nazi concentration camp and the only successful uprising of prisoners, led by the Red Army lieutenant Alexander Pechersky. The main role in the film was played by Khabensky himself. For the premiere weekend, Sobibor, whose budget was 180 million rubles, received 106 million rubles from viewers. This is the best starting result among war films released this year. So, the February "Rubezh" received 65 million rubles for the first four days, and the "Tanks", which premiered on April 26, earned almost half as much - only 37 million rubles. Reviewers, although they note a number of shortcomings, such as historical inaccuracies and unnecessary storylines, but in general, the directorial debut of Konstantin Khabensky is recognized as successful. The film is visually and emotionally strong, conveying the oppressive and frightening atmosphere of the Sobibor death camp and the lives of its prisoners.  The leader of the past two weeks, the sports drama "Trainer", retreated to the third line of the financial rating. Compared to the results of the last weekend, the box office of Danila Kozlovsky's film sank by 64% and amounted to 53 million rubles. In total, the picture collected 788 million rubles in three weeks of rental. This allowed her to take the fourth line in the list of the most financially successful releases of this year, leaving ahead of the aforementioned "Ice" (1.5 billion rubles), "Avengers" (1.16 billion rubles) and "Black Panther" (1.09 RUB bln).  A new full-length cartoon about Smeshariki has dropped from the second line to the fourth. The funny round guys could not withstand the onslaught of Thanos and the Avengers team, and also lost part of the audience to the animation novelty "Daddy-Mommy Goose". Having lost 58% of the premiere fees, the cartoon "Smeshariki. Deja Vu ”was able to earn 36 million rubles. In total, the project now has a little more than 223 million rubles, and so far the result of the next tape about the adventures of Krosh, Nyusha, Hedgehog and the others bypasses the fees of the first two films. For the same period of time, "Inception" and "The Legend of the Golden Dragon" received 181 million rubles. and 209 million rubles. respectively.  Rounding out the top five is the Sino-American animated comedy "Mom and Dad Goose." The protagonist of the story, a cheerful and narcissistic loser goose Pam, fell to the ground due to a wing injury and almost crushed two little ducklings. Despite his bad temper, he took care of the kids and went on a journey with them on foot to return the losses to their parents. The picture started on Tuesday, May 1, as part of pre-screenings and collected 22 million rubles in two days. Additional 20 million rubles. the premiere weekend brought directly to the piggy bank. The audience liked the cheerful and instructive tale. In their reviews, they praise the fascinating plot, colorful characters, the moral of the story, note the humor, the quality of the animation and the vivid picture.
