Good old Robocop
Not so long ago, a fashion came to Hollywood for films that ignore the events of the not very successful parts of the famous film series. Very soon, the Dream Factory will boil work on the direct sequel to Terminator 2, and earlier Neil Blomkamp's Alien almost went into production, thanks to which Alien 3 and Alien 4. Resurrection should have dropped out of the chronology of the horror franchise. According to Zeitgeist Entertainment, a sequel to the original RoboCop is also currently being prepared in Hollywood.Edward Neumeier, screenwriter of the 1987 cult action movie, shared information with the journalists of the Barbados online edition. “I am currently working on a new film about the adventures of Robocop for the MGM studio, - said the creator of the franchise. -I, of course, cannot reveal the details of his plot. The original film had several sequels and was recently remade. The new picture will bring back the Robocop we all love. Our project will be a continuation of the first part of the film series". In 1987, Paul Verhoeven's film received rave reviews in the press, more than recouped its modest production budget and won five Academy Awards for Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films.  Soon, the producers were eager to create a sequel. Peter Weller returned to the image of the title character in the second part, but Verhoeven and Neumeier were left out of the project. RoboCop 2 received mixed reviews in the press and failed to meet the financial expectations of its creators. Despite the film's poor performance at the box office, the management of Orion Pictures decided to complete the trilogy about the brave guardian of law and order. The studio bosses were not even stopped by the news that Peter Weller refused to participate in the creation of Robocop 3. As a result, the triquel was defeated by critics and earned only $ 10 million from a budget of $ 22 million. In 2014, a remake of Robocop was released. Critics loved many of Jose Padilla's directorial discoveries and Yuel Kinnaman's acting, but they clearly lacked the naturalistic violence and subtle social satire for which the original was famous. Nevertheless, MGM should have been satisfied with the performance of the film at the box office: with a production budget of $ 100 million, it earned more than $ 242 million.  It was rumored that the studio bosses were ready to launch a sequel to the 2014 action movie, but Edward Neumeier's words make it clear that the further development of the franchise could go in a completely different direction.
