The WB started looking for Mortal Kombat members

Image Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema are finally ready to launch the long-awaited reboot of the Mortal Kombat movie series. According to That Hashtag Show, Hollywood studios have already begun looking for key actors. As proof, American journalists cite a casting list with a description of the main characters of the film.

A new film based on the Mortal Kombat game franchise was announced seven years ago. Kevin Tancharoen, director of the popular web series Mortal Kombat: The Legacy, was supposed to direct the action movie, but after a couple of years he unexpectedly left the project. The film was only reanimated in the summer of 2015, when James Wang took over as producer (Saw: A Survival Game, Fast and Furious 7).

A year later, the Australian advertiser Simon McQuoid was appointed director of the action movie, after which the project once again plunged into an information vacuum. Now there is finally news about his characters on the web. Judging by the casting list, the main character of the film will be the widowed boxer Cole Turner, who is ready to do anything for his 12-year-old daughter.

It looks like the executives of the WB and New Line are going to take a chance and make the protagonist of the film a completely new character, who has never appeared in the games of the Mortal Kombat universe before. The description of two familiar heroes of the franchise will certainly cause apprehension among gamers. So, Sonya Blade will appear in the form of a beautiful and intelligent writer, and the god of thunder Raiden will appear as a 14-year-old teenager.

Fortunately for the audience, this is where the writers' experiments end. Descriptions of Liu Kang, Kong Lao, Shang Tsung, Jax, Kabal, Kano, Milena, Dramin, Reiko and Nitara make it clear that all these heroes and villains will resemble their game prototypes. However, in the long-awaited news about the fate of the reboot, there was still another fly in the ointment: there are no such iconic characters of the Mortal Kombat universe as Johnny Cage, Scorpio and Sub-Zero in the casting list.

It should be noted that WB and New Line officials are in no hurry to confirm the authenticity of the list of characters in the new "Mortal Kombat".
