Image The long-awaited relaunch of Mortal Kombat has been in the works for nearly five years now, and it looks like the franchise is finally ready for another round. As the site Variety found out, New Line has found a director to reboot - Simon McQuoid .

The director has no experience in filming, but is known for creating successful commercials. The Australian has worked with renowned brands such as Duracell , Nissan , Samsung and HP . Greg Russo, who wrote the last draft of the script for the project, and producer James Wang ("Fast and Furious 7", "The Conjuring") will help him start a career in cinema.

The game franchise Mortal Kombat formed the basis for several film adaptations. So, in 1995, the then little-known director Paul W.S. Anderson filmed the movie "Mortal Kombat" , which pleased both gamers and critics. The success of the tape in the box office allowed the sequel, Mortal Kombat 2: Annihilation, to be launched, but it failed to attract the attention of viewers, after which other projects related to the series went to gather dust on the shelf.

In 2011, the web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy ( Mortal Kombat: Legacy ) was born, and director Kevin Tancharoen was immediately invited to take the directorial chair of the reboot. However, later the filmmaker left the project, and it was only possible to revive it last year, when James Wang became the producer of the future tape.
