James Wan, who has directed popular movies such as The Conjuring and Fast and Furious 7, has been appointed as producer of the movie project based on the fighting game series Mortal Kombat. This is reported by the Tracking Board.

Wang's appointment may indicate that the project of the New Line Cinema studio, which has been in development for many years, has finally moved off the ground. Who will take the post of director has not yet been specified. For a time he was listed as Kevin Tancharoen, the creator of the hit series Mortal Kombat: The Legacy, but back in 2013 he distanced himself from the full-length adaptation.

Terms of work on the new project were not known at the time of this writing. It is expected to be based on a script by Oren Uzil and Dave Callaham.

Recall that the first game in the "Mortal Kombat" series was released by Midway Games in 1992. The gameplay was reduced to duels endowed with different abilities of the characters. A distinctive feature of the series has always been the brutality of the video sequence. The original game was followed by several sequels, the most recent of which at the time of this writing was Mortal Kombat X, released in 2015.
