Ansel Elgort will sing for Spielberg
For his next directing project, Steven Spielberg considered two options: a fifth of Indiana Jones and a remake of West Side Story. As a result, the script for the sequel about the adventures of the famous archaeologist Spielberg did not suit, and he safely switched his attention to the musical. The Hollywood Reporter reports that the filmmaker has devoted the last months to the selection of actors for the film, and Ansel Elgort was the first person Spielberg invited to join him.The remake team watched thousands of applicants in New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Puerto Rico, and the casting process took so long that insiders feared West Side Story would suffer the fate of The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara when the project went on the shelf due to difficulties in the selection of performers. For his musical, Spielberg was looking for actors with a talent not only for acting, but also for singing and dancing. Elgort, in addition to touching the fair sex with his performance in the drama The Fault in the Stars, also periodically releases musical singles. West Side Story was originally a Broadway musical that was adapted for big screens in 1961. At the Oscars, the film became the undisputed favorite of film academics, receiving 11 nominations and winning ten of them. The film is set in New York in the 50s and tells a tragic love story that emerges amid the feud between two gangs. Elgort will play the main character named Tony, who was once a member of the Jet gang and fell in love with Maria, the sister of the leader of the opposing gang of Puerto Ricans.  This year Elgort was seen in the thriller The Billionaires Club, and his upcoming projects include the sci-fi Jonathan and the drama The Goldfinch.
