Review of the movie Little Red Riding Hood. Profile only

Hollywood loves to alter or very loosely interpret children's literature, often turning the latter into gloomy gothic thrillers. Of course, this interpretation is not suitable for all children's fairy tales, but the story of Little Red Riding Hood from childhood seemed to me a kind of mystical thriller, with blood (and how else to shoot a grandmother being eaten by a wolf) and a gloomy atmosphere. It would be just right to invite Tim Burton, as the best director of gothic fairy tales, but the producers decided otherwise. As a result, with the light hand of Catherine Hardwicke, the director of the first part of the Twilight saga, her `` Little Red Riding Hood '' turned into the same Twilight, only with different actors.

The mother of a young girl named Valerie, really wants to marry her to the rich blacksmith Henry, while the daughter herself is head over heels in love with the financially deprived woodcutter Peter. But the situation is complicated by a werewolf who constantly attacks the villagers. Valerie has to find a mysterious mystical troublemaker and, along the way, finally deal with her suitors.

From a plot point of view, from the original fairy tale here only the core remains, and a couple of main episodes, so it's not a big deal if you haven't read the book. The cap itself has been replaced with a very stylish red cloak. And it seems that the director has all the components for a high-quality movie, but … Unfortunately, or (for someone) fortunately, the gothic thriller did not work, because instead of him we were shown the next part of `` Twilight '', with endlessly sugary dialogues, pretentious speeches about love and … again sugary dialogues. The detective line with the werewolf is given very little time here, and therefore Burton fans can definitely pass by.

In fact, the whole plot of the movie it is the endless leaps of narrative between two conflicting storylines: the romantic and the detective. It is unbearably boring to watch all this, and only the ending can be called at least somewhat impressive. It turned out to be quite unexpected here (although there are also claims to it from the point of view of logic and motivation).

But at first, it seems as if we are really watching an atmospheric thriller. Very high quality music (perhaps the main aspect of the tape, to which there are no complaints), interesting decorations, mesmerizing panoramas of forests and mountains. All this very clearly works for the atmosphere. But as soon as an extremely corny lumberjack with a glamorous hairstyle appears in the frame, all of the aforementioned achievements roll to hell, and the brain simply refuses to take all subsequent events seriously. This applies, for example, to the episode "Grandma, Why Do You Have Such Big Teeth", which seems to be supposed to create suspense, but by that moment it is impossible to watch what is happening without laughing.

Honestly, sometimes it seems like this is a parody of the same " Twilight '', there are too many episodes that the audience in the hall sincerely laughed at. But when, after watching, you start replaying what happened in your head, you realize that all this was demonstrated with a face too serious for a parody. But the worst thing that can be said about a thriller is that it is funny.

You will not envy the actors in this situation. Still, Amanda Seyfried can hardly be called a bad actress, but here she was just helpless and extremely static. I don't even want to mention the local analogues of Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, because they were on the site just for furniture. It is also unclear what Gary Oldman has forgotten here as Solomon, a man obsessed with capturing a werewolf. He certainly looked good in the frame, but this movie is clearly not his level.

These are the pies. Remove luscious dialogues, reduce the amount of romance, and take on the main roles a little more authentic actors (after all, the woodcutters of those times were hardly SO well-groomed uncles) – sure the movie would be better. Well, in the end, before us is just a carbon copy of the famous vampire saga, only with a slightly different sauce. Fans of Catherine Hardwicke's previous work may be interested, but others will likely be disappointed.
