Michael Gambon, best known for his role as the wizard Dumbledore in the Harry Potter movies, will star in a miniseries based on J.K. Rowling, targeting an adult audience, The Casual Vacancy. This is reported by SlashFilm.

The action in the miniseries is set in the seemingly idyllic provincial English town of Pagford after the death of one of the members of the local city council. The fight for the vacant seat brings to light a long-standing confrontation between the poor and the rich, teenagers and their parents, wives and husbands, teachers and students.

Gambon will play Howard Mollison, chairman of the council and owner of a local grocery store. Julia McKenzie, Rory Kinnear, Monica Donal, Richard Glover will star in the series with Gambon. Keely Hawes and other actors.

The HBO / BBC miniseries, which will be a three-hour episode of production, begins July 7, 2014 in England. Johnny Campbell (Doctor Who) has been appointed director of the TV project based on the script by Sarah Phelps.
