Warner Bros. Film Company filed a lawsuit against the foundation that controls Tolkien's legacy, accusing him of causing material damage. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The creators of The Hobbit Trilogy believe that the attempt by the writer's heirs to block certain types of licensing activities related to the project cost the company millions of dollars.

As a reminder, in November 2012, the fund complained to the Los Angeles County Court about violation of the terms of the contract authorizing the licensing production of goods related to the characters and events of Tolkien's books. The plaintiffs insisted that the moviemakers were only allowed to make `` tangible goods '', not online games and services.

The foundation argued that they learned about the misuse of their property from spam emails when they were asked to participate in Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring: Online Slot Game. The plaintiffs later found out that the Warner Bros. plans to release traditional slot machines based on the works of Tolkien.
