Amazon Studios is developing a series based on the 1999 sci-fi comedy In Search of the Galaxy. The streaming service's partner is Paramount Television, which acquired the rights to adapt the movie in April this year. This is reported by Entertainment Weekly.

Recall that in the comedy, the plot is centered on a group of sci-fi series actors who are mistaken by aliens for the crew of a real spaceship and ask for help. The actors have no choice but to take on the rescue of the alien race.

Development of the show is in its very early stages. It is not yet clear whether the series will become a complete reboot, and whether any of the stars of the full-length original movie will appear in it, including Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell, Enrico Colantoni and Justin Long.

As for the creative team, it practically consists of those who created the original painting. Co-writer Robert Gordon will write the pilot, which will be directed by the movie's director Dean Parisot. Both will executive produce with the movie's producers Mark Jones and Melissa Bernstein.
