Global box office receipts surged in 2016
In 2016, the global box office reached a new all-time high of $ 38.6 billion. However, as the edition of Variety emphasizes, citing data from the American Association of Film Producers, in contrast to previous years, the growth was only one percent. Such a slight increase is explained by the stagnation in the Chinese movie market: instead of the explosive growth that was recorded in China for several years, in 2016 fees in this country in dollar terms even decreased by one percent. North America fared slightly better, with revenues reaching $ 11.4 billion, up two percent from 2015. 52 percent of viewers were women. A total of 718 full-length movie projects were released in 2016, of which 133 were produced by the six largest Hollywood movie studios. This is five percent less than in 2015. Large studios produced fewer movies, but spent on average more on their production. The top five leaders were exclusively projects of Walt Disney and its divisions - "The First Avenger 3: Confrontation", "Rogue One: Star Wars.
