NBC to movie Hostage TV prequel

Luc Besson will continue to develop the Hostage franchise - this time on television. According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC has commissioned the production of a television prequel to the 2008 action movie by Pierre Morel, directed by Besson.

The drama series will be produced by Universal Television and EuropaCorp. The latter movieed all three movies in the franchise, starring Liam Neeson. At the time of this writing, the search for a screenwriter and showrunner of the television project is underway. Also, the number of episodes of the upcoming series, the timing of its production and the date of the premiere are still unknown.

In the original 2008 movie, Neeson played the role of retired CIA agent Brian Mills, who single-handedly rescued a daughter taken hostage. The NBC prequel will talk about how young Brian honed his skills and became the professional who appeared in front of the audience in a full-length action movie.
