Shekhar Kapoor to direct Cleopatra series
Slingshot Global Media is developing the TV series "Cleopatra". According to Deadline, Golden Globe nominee Shekhar Kapoor ("Elizabeth") will write and direct the television project, which will be distributed by Slingshot Global. At the time of this writing, an actress is being searched for the role of the famous queen of Ancient Egypt. The series will present a new look at the life story of Cleopatra. Rather than focusing on her glorified romances with Julius Caesar and Mark Antony, the show will offer the opposite version, according to which these men became famous thanks to Cleopatra. The story will be told from the perspective of an eighteen-year-old girl who became a pharaoh and queen – a woman smarter, brighter, richer, a better administrator and ruler than the men of her time. The series will create a new image of Cleopatra, presenting her as a modern woman, a woman who understood the power of myth and turned herself into a myth. The drama will shed light on her great romances and her ability to survive despite repeated attempts on her life. "Cleopatra is probably the most famous and most misunderstood historical figure of all time," said Kapoor. Director, screenwriter and producer, Kapoor is best known for the "Elizabeth" and "Golden Age" dilogy starring Cate Blanchett. Recent work on television – the upcoming series "Damien", a sequel to the feature movie "The Omen".
