Before starting production of the sequel to Avatar, James Cameron may direct the historical drama Cleopatra, starring Angelina Jolie. According to the Deadline resource, negotiations are being held with the director by Sony Pictures.
The project will be based on Stacy Schiff's book The Life of Cleopatra, adapted for the screen by Brian Helgland. Scott Rudin is to be the producer of the project.
Recall that earlier the news that Jolie could play Cleopatra excited the black organizations in the United States. Their representatives were outraged that the queen of Egypt should be played by a white actress.
Note that the image of Cleopatra on the screen was embodied exclusively by white actresses: in 1934 - Claudette Colbert, in 1945, Vivien Leigh, and in 1963, Elizabeth Taylor.
