Cleopatra will be the heroine of the series
Amazon Studios has begun work on the drama series Cleopatra * ( Cleopatra ), about the legendary Egyptian queen, reports the Deadline. The project will be handled by a trio of creators of the Black Sails show about the adventures of sea robbers - Jonathan E. Steinberg, Robert Levine and Dan Schots.Created by Levine , the story is described as a reimagined look at one of the most underrated women in history, the Godfather of Ancient Egypt. Nearly dying in a bloody coup, Cleopatra used her intelligence and political genius to reclaim the throne and restore the honor of her family and kingdom. Robert Levine will also executive produce alongside Steinberg , Schots and Mary Beth Basil (Beauty and the Beast).  Steinberg , Levine and Shotz have collaborated on the pirate adventure series Black Sails . The prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel Treasure Island ran for four seasons, with the last episode aired on Starz last month. In recent years, there have been several attempts to launch a series dedicated to Cleopatra . Most recently, Slingshot Global Media launched a project with Shekhar Kapoor (“Elizabeth”) listed as scriptwriter and director.  A couple of years ago, NBC ordered a pilot episode of a drama series about an Egyptian queen, and Lifetime was developing a mini-series.
