Film Academy apologizes to Asian moviemakers
Academy directors have made an official apology to Asian moviemakers for "provoking" jokes about them during the 2016 Oscars. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this is how the Film Academy reacted to the open letter signed by Ang Lee, Sandra Oh, George Takei and many others. They were outraged by the number of Chris Rock, during which he invited several Asian children to the stage, introducing them as accountants of the Film Academy. They also considered Sasha Baron Cohen's joke about the genitals of Asians inappropriate. In a letter from one of the directors of the Film Academy, Dawn Hudson, it is stated that the organization "had no intention of offending anyone", and contains a promise "to pay great attention to the process of preparing the ceremony." Recall that this is not the only scandal that accompanied the Academy Awards ceremony. Earlier, some American moviemakers expressed their outrage at the absence of black applicants for awards. In response, Academy Director Sherryl Boone Isaacs has pledged to implement sweeping reforms that are designed to provide "greater diversity in making key decisions for the structure."
