Emmy-nominated Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad) has joined the Netflix hip-hop drama "The Get Down," directed by Baz Luhrmann ("The Great Gatsby"). This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The series focuses on New York in the 1970s - a broken, reckless lifestyle, furious, in need of money, dying. South Bronx teen scum company – nothing and no one will take care of the guys except themselves, armed only with verbal rhymes, impromptu dance moves, magic markers and aerosol cans. From rented apartments in the Bronx to art scenes in Soho; from the CBGB club to Studio 54 and the glass towers of the newly built World Trade Center – "The Get Down" tells the mythical saga of how New York City, on the brink of bankruptcy, gave birth to hip-hop, punk and disco through the lives and music of South Bronx children who changed the city and the world ... forever.

Esposito will play the role of Pastor Ramon Cruz, the charismatic head of the local Pentecostal church, who gathers his faithful flock around with his sermons. Pastor Cruz – the father of Milena Cruz (Herisen F. Guardiola), whose dreams of fame and disco often lead to disagreements with his father. Also Pastor Cruz – the brother of Francisco Cruz, aka "Papa Fuerte" (Jimmy Smits).
