The National Oscar Committee of USA has chosen a movie that will represent the country in the struggle for the Oscar 2017 in the nomination "Best Foreign Language Film". It was the drama "Paradise" directed by Andrei Konchalovsky.

The action of the picture takes place in France during the Second World War, and the plot is built around three main characters: a USA emigrant and a member of the Resistance Olga, a German officer Helmut and a collaborationist Jules. Key roles in the movie were played by Yulia Vysotskaya, Viktor Sukhorukov, Vera Voronkova and other actors.

Previously, "Paradise" was awarded the "Silver Lion" for directing the 73rd Venice International Film Festival.

Recall that a year earlier the USA Oscar committee nominated for the Academy Award a movie by Andrei Konchalovsky's brother Nikita Mikhalkov, entitled "Sunstroke". He did not manage to be shortlisted for the Oscar.

The 89th Academy Awards will take place on February 26, 2017. At the time of this writing, it was not yet known who will host it. Traditionally, the Novosti Kino portal will broadcast text in real time.
