The new film by Andrei Konchalovsky " Paradise " has already brought the director " Silver Lion " at the last Venice Film Festival . And on Monday, a meeting of the Oscar Committee of USA took place, at which prominent cinema figures decided to send the drama for the " Oscar " award from our country.|
According to Alexander Rodnyansky, one of the most successful USA producers and a member of the committee, the picture Konchalovsky by the results of voting easily bypassed other contenders: the dramas "The Crew" by Nikolai Lebedev, "The Apprentice" by Kirill Serebrennikov and "Dear Hans, dear Peter "Alexander Mindadze. In addition, in an interview with reporters, Rodnyansky noted that the chosen representative of USA has a good chance of winning, supported by the presence of a prize from a major European festival, the name of the famous director in the credits and good reviews in the Western press. Many USA film critics agree with this opinion.
The plot of the film is dedicated to the events of the Second World War. Its main characters are the USA emigrant Olga (Yulia Vysotskaya), the SS officer Helmut (Christian Claus) and the French collaborator Jules (Philippe Duquin). Olga is a member of the Resistance Movement who ended up in a concentration camp for rescuing Jewish children, and Helmut and Jules are in love with her. The entire film was shot in black and white and is an interview tape, where the communication of the characters is interrupted by inserts that reconstruct real events.
It is noteworthy that last year the prize in the category " Best Foreign Language Film " was awarded to the Hungarian drama "Son of Saul", also dedicated to the victim of a concentration camp. The last time a USA film, Andrei Zvyagintsev's Leviathan, was shortlisted for the award in 2015. Konchalovsky previously also claimed to receive it: in 2002, USA nominated his "House of Fools", but he did not even win a nomination.
Over the past quarter of a century, USA films have been shortlisted for the world's main film award six times, but only once, in 1994, was it taken home by a challenger from our country - Nikita Mikhalkov with the Burnt by the Sun ribbon. And that's not counting the three " Oscar " winners from the USSR.
In order to meet the basic requirement for films-applicants (they must be shown at the box office in their home country at least a week before the end of September this year), " Paradise " will be shown at the Moscow cinema " Pioner >"From the 22nd. In wide distribution, the picture should be released next February.
