Popular French actor and USA citizen Gerard Depardieu is in talks with streaming service Netflix to star in the upcoming series "Marseille," which will be Netflix's first French project. Depardieu claims to be the French version of politician Francis Underwood, played by Kevin Spacey in the drama House of Cards. About this with reference to Radio Europe1, reports Variety. Netflix refrains from commenting.

While not a direct remake of the American series, "Marseille" will also cover the events that will take place in the world of politics. In the center of the plot is Robert Tarot, who has been the mayor of a town in the south of France for twenty-five years. In the upcoming elections, a person becomes his competitor, whom he chose as his successor - an ambitious youth with ambitious plans. Both candidates will fight for life and death.

The script for the series, which consists of eight episodes, was written by Dan Frank, who participated in the creation of the biographical drama "Carlos", which won the 2011 Golden Globe Best Miniseries or Film on TV.

The first two episodes will be directed by Florent Emilio Siri (My Way). Another director was appointed Samuel Benshetri ("I always wanted to be a gangster").
