HBO to movie pilot for Salem Witch-drama, scripted by Jenji Cohen
HBO has commissioned the production of the pilot for the drama "New World" from the script of the creator of the series "Shoals" and "Orange is the hit of the season" Jenji Cohen, the rights to which he acquired over a year ago. Oscar-nominated Gus Van Sant ("Harvey Milk") has been named director and executive producer of the pilot. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The provocative historical drama explores the circumstances surrounding one of the most exciting chapters in American history - the story of the Salem witches - when intolerance and repression turned a neighbor against a neighbor and led the city to mass hysteria ... Production of the pilot will begin in the spring in Massachusetts. Cohen will write the screenplay with Bruce Miller ("The Medium") and Tracy Miller. Cohen and Bruce Miller will executive produce with Tara Herrmann (Orange Is The New Black). HBO and Lionsgate TV will co-produce.
