BBC Worldwide North America and Fathom Events have announced the return of Doctor Who to the big screen. As reported by ComingSoon, on September 15 and 16, 2015, the finale of the eighth season of the series, consisting of two parts - "Dark Water" and "Death in Heaven" - will be shown in RealD 3D and Dolby Atmos (if available in theaters). The program includes a special scene leading up to the first episode of the show's upcoming ninth season and an exclusive interview with the stars of the show – Peter Capaldi and Jenna-Louise Coleman. The event will be hosted by Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: The Next Generation, The Big Bang Theory).

Doctor Who: Dark Water / Death in Heaven in 3D tickets will be available for purchase starting Friday , July 31, on the Fathom Events website or at the box office. Fans of the show in the United States will be able to enjoy watching in about 700 theaters.

"We love to have special screenings of Doctor Who in theaters and watch the fans react. This time they will have the opportunity to enjoy 3D and additional bonuses not available anywhere else, "Fathom Events representatives said in a statement.

This is not the first time Doctor Who has made it to the big screen. So, in the fall of 2013, a special edition was shown dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the series, which was called "Doctor's Day", and last year the premiere of the eighth season of the show was shown in cinemas.
