NBC has decided not to renew the new historical drama "AD The Bible Continues" for a second season. According to Deadline, the cast has been notified of the cancellation of the show by executive producers Mark Barnett and Roma Downey.

Sequel to the hugely successful History Channel miniseries The Bible, the Universal Television series was to continue its historic franchise. In April this year ahead of the premiere, Barnett told the publication that the writers are already working on a script for a potential second season. In light of recent events, the TV project may look for another platform.

After a confident debut on the channel on April 5, 2015, the ratings according to the "premiere plus views on the same day" scheme were 9, 5 million viewers, of which 2.3 million belonged to key audiences aged 18 to 49. The twelve-episode drama then plummeted in popularity, with only 0.7 million people watching the final two episodes.

AD The Bible Continues was canceled by NBC following another new drama series American Odyssey, which started as and, "AD" in April this year. Of the new products to date, NBC has extended only the detective "Secrets of Laura".
