Elijah Wood to star in the comedy thriller Dirk Gently
Elijah Wood will co-star in BBC America's eight-episode TV show "Dirk Gently". The series is based on works about Dirk Gently by Douglas Adams, author of the famous famous series of books "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." The series, written by Max Landis (Ultra-Americans), will debut in fall 2016. Comedy-thriller Dirk Gently follows the bizarre adventures of the eccentric detective Dirk Gently and his lazy assistant Todd (Wood). In each episode, chance finds bring them closer to revealing the truth about a big and, at first glance, insane secret, unraveling which they now and then stumble upon strange and dangerous people. Todd does not consider himself an assistant. He's clearly better at many things than Dirk. He always tries to solve issues with the fewest possible steps; despite being compassionate and sweet, and smarter than many people with a rare wit, Todd often finds himself at a crossroads of moral choice. Thus, among his bad habits – a tendency to lie and theft, which usually leads to dire consequences, however, he cannot give up this forever, no matter how hard he tries. Describing himself to Dirk, Todd says: "I'm not Watson for you, you moron. I can't be kicked into doing what I'm not disposed to do. I'm on my own – problematic with my own problems."
