In the USA, at the age of 89, the author of the novel "The Exorcist", as well as the script for the 1973 movie of the same name, William Peter Blatty, has died. This is reported by the Comingsoon edition.

Blatty's writing career began in the late 1950s, when he helped create the bestselling Dear Teenager as a "ghostwriter". His first book, Which Way to Mecca, Jack? was published in 1959. Around this time, Blatty began collaborating with Hollywood producers, writing scripts for low-budget comedies.

According to legend, the work on the most famous work of the writer - "The Exorcist" began with his winning in the lottery of 10 thousand dollars. This allowed him to rent a small house on the lake and immerse himself in his work. However, the funds won quickly ran out and for some time the writer had to live on unemployment benefits, but he did not abandon his brainchild. The novel was published in 1971 and sold very poorly at first, as readers mostly did not know the word "exorcist" and did not understand what the book was about. Only after a detailed explanation given by Blatty in one of the television programs, sales skyrocketed and "The Exorcist" became a real world-class bestseller.

William Peter Blatty wrote the script for all sequels to the original movie, as well as the 2016 series The Exorcist.
