Fox is adapting the 1971 book The Exorcist. The cable duct ordered the production of the pilot. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The modern version, inspired by the novel by William Peter Blatty, tells the story of two men tackling a horrific case of demonic possession and facing true evil.

The script for the psychological thriller will be written by Jeremy Slater ("The Lazarus Effect", "Fantastic Four"). He, James Robinson, David Robinson and Barbara Wall will share the executive producing roles. The drama will be co-produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Morgan Creek Productions.

Fox is not the first time Fox has turned to successful feature movies for pilot ideas. In the fall of 2015, the Minority Report series, based on the movie of the same name by Steven Spielberg, failed to interest the audience despite the great popularity of the original movie, in which Tom Cruise played the main role. Last month, the reboot of another famous 80s movie, Urban Cowboy, was closed.

The Exorcist was released in 1973 and earned over $ 402 million on a production budget of $ 12 million .
