MTV will direct a series about shoplifters (Topic)

Channel MTV will shoot a series based on the book "Trinkets" by famous screenwriter Kirsten Smith. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The novel, first published in 2013, tells the story of three teenage girls who meet at a meeting of the Shoplifters Anonymous. The friendship they hide from everyone changes their social, domestic and romantic life.

Co-creator of the series, Andrea Siegel ("Baby"), will write the script for the comedy. Smith will executive produce with Morgan J. Freeman of Dawson's Creek and Dia Sokol of 11th Street Productions. The upcoming Trinkets will mark the third collaboration between MTV and 11th Street Productions to movie Mothers and Daughters and 16 Pregnant.

"We want to make a sincere and smart version of Breakfast Club," but with female heroines and petty shoplifting, and Andrea is the perfect writer to bring these characters to life for TV, "she said in a statement Smith.
