New Line has announced the production of Black Adam, a spin-off of Shazam, another DC comics-based project. This is reported by The Wrap with reference to its sources. It is worth noting that Dwayne Johnson was announced as the performer of the role of Black Adam back in 2008. In 2019, the premiere of the movie "Shazam" is to take place, and the prospects for the solo project are still unclear, since it has neither a scriptwriter nor a director.
Black Adam was first introduced in the "The Marvel Family" comic series in 1945, but then he did not gain much popularity, and his rebirth took place already in the 70s of the 20th century.
In the original version, he was a prince of Ancient Egypt named Tet Adam, whom the powerful wizard Shazam chose as his heir and endowed with his own powers. However, the newfound power corrupted Theta, he rebelled against the Egyptian pharaoh and seized his throne. Disappointed Shazam, unable to take away the power granted to him, names his student Black Adam and exiles him to a distant star system, from where he managed to return only five thousand years later.
In the Shazam comic series, the origin of the antihero has been adjusted.
