Game of Thrones Wins Major Visual Effects Society Awards

The Visual Effects Society has announced the winners of its annual TV Series Awards. The HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones became the winner of the awards, as it did last year.

In the Best Photorealistic Special Effects Episode category, Game of Thrones won with The Dance of Dragons. Competitors in this nomination were: "Battle of Sevastopol" (episode of a naval battle); "The end of childhood" ("Night Three"); Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell (Arabella); "The Strain" ("Identity").

The trophy for "Best Photorealistic Auxiliary Special Effects in an Episode" went to the drama "The Vikings" ("To the Gates"). Other nominees included: "Black Sails" ("XVIII"); "Horror on the cheap" ("And They Were Enemies"); "Daredevil" ("Speak of the Devil"); "Agent Carter" ("Now Is Not the End").

The award for "Best Wednesday in an Episode" went to "City of Volantis", which surpassed its rivals, including "Vikings" ("Paris"); "Game of Thrones" ("Drogon Arena"); "Black Sails" ("Charles Town Harbor"). Also the series was recognized for "Best Modeling of Effects in an Episode" ("Hardhome").
