The Walt Disney Company is forced to resort to large-scale additional movieing of the project called "The Nutcracker and the Four Kingdoms", which is based on the famous ballet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and the tale of Hoffmann. However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, they will not be directed by the director of the movie Lasse Hallstrom, but by Joe Johnston.

The reason for the reshoots is not specified, as well as the reason for the replacement of the director. Note that Johnston has a long-term relationship with Walt Disney: he previously movieed the movie "The First Avenger" for the subsidiary studio Marvel.

Recall that the main role will be played by the young actress McKenzie Foy, whom viewers remember from such movies as "The Twilight Saga. Breaking Dawn" and "Interstellar". The movie will also star Keira Knightley, Morgan Freeman, Matthew McFaden, Helen Mirren, Richard E. Grant, Ellie Bamber and other actors. Freeman will play the role of Drosselmeyer, who presented the main character with the Nutcracker, and Knightley got the part of the Sugar Plum Fairy. The project will combine live footage and CGI imagery.

The Nutcracker and the Four Kingdoms will world premiere at the end of October 2018, and will be widely released in early November.
